Oscar Fashion

The Academy Awards bestows recognition for excellence in the film industry, including directors, actors, writers and technicians. On this night of stars, film industry insiders shower accolades on those peers who represent the year’s best.  However, it isn’t only the film industry or film buffs that are glued to the Oscars.

As the awards season draws to a close, the fashion world’s eyes are set squarely on Sunday’s upcoming 2012 Academy Awards, or Oscars. What top celebrities wear to the Oscars, how they are styled and what they accessorize with heavily impacts fashion trends, both in high-end couture and on Main Street.

The preface to the Oscars is the same every year. Nominated and attending movie stars will be primping, getting pinned and ready for their walk down the red carpet. As soon as the first Louboutin hits the carpet, millions will judge whether that effort was worthwhile. Predictably, there are hits and misses, but rarely does Oscar fashion leave us bored.

What we see on the red carpet is often a harbinger of both upcoming season’s collections, as well as the overall mood of the populace. This year will be no different. Though much of the designer duds that stars are wearing are inaccessible to the general masses, there are ways you can also shine without draining your retirement fund.

Every award season, there seems to be one or two colors that dominate. Watch for that hue and, if it flatters you, buy a piece or two in that color for an instant update to your wardrobe.

What is under your garment is often as important as your garment itself. The wrong undergarments can ruin an otherwise fabulous outfit. Spanx and the right bra are indispensible.

Accessorizing is a fine art. That gorgeous bag in which you carry your life has no place at an event or night out. Don’t let your purse overwhelm your outfit when you hit the town. An evening bag should be small. It should complement. It is, after all, an accessory not the star of the show.

Jewelry should make a statement. That statement could be bold, but not confused. Ensure that you choose only one statement piece, be it a necklace, bracelet or earring, but not all three.

The same philosophy applies to make-up. Don’t overdo it. Prominent red lips are fabulous. Mysterious, smoky eyes are alluring. The two together are a disaster. Pick one and do it beautifully.

By following certain tips, you can emulate Hollywood’s chic trends and be budget-conscious. Be selective. Be fashion-conscious. Be fabulous!
