It's amazing how Internet use in Mexico has changed in the last 5 years. The trends and patterns that have emerged have already become part of our everyday life. To analyze the cyberspace behavior of users in our country, the Mexican Internet Association (AMIPCI) conducted a study which yielded surprising results.
According to research, the increase in the number of users from 2012 to 2013 was 6.1 million, representing a growth of 13% in just one year.
According AMIPCI, the average person began using the Internet 6 years ago and their principal activity has been the use of email (which still remains the main source of Internet access) and searching for information.
In contrast, the average length of use for social networks is just 4 years and this is the area that has increased the most among active users, more than searching for information or online chat.
The statistics are overwhelming: 9 out of 10 users access a social network, Facebook being the busiest. This phenomenon is attributed to the fact that the use of smartphones is increasing and today, 5 out of 10 users have access to the Internet from their mobile devices.
8 out of 10 children use the Internet primarily in schools, generating 50% for school use and 50% for entertainment. On average, children begin using the Internet at age 10 which means that 82% of children are on the Internet and those who are not are still too young to have learned to use it.
