It’s hard to believe that we’re less than three months from the end of 2012, a year that’s been full of change and controversy in Puerto Vallarta and Mexico as a whole.
And the high season in Vallarta is once again just around the corner, breathing some economic relief into the lives of residents after another sleepy summer season.
A few days ago the local newspapers started promoting the events scheduled in Vallarta until the end of the year, with the standout being the XVIII International Gourmet Festival, which will be hosted by Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta. For 10 delicious days, Banderas Bay will be a mecca for international dining starting on November 8.
The 57th International Marlin and Sailfish Fishing Tournament will begin on November 7th at Puerto Vallarta Yacht Club, opposite the Hotel Westin Regina. Over 4 days, sports fishermen from all over North America will be on the waters of Banderas Bay in search of huge fish and big tournament prizes. The tournament comes on the heels of the 5th Local Fishing Tournament held on Playa de Los Muertos. The event is popular in that the registration fee is very low, opening up the tournament to fishermen from all walks of life.
We’ll also hear the starting gun on November 2th for the 10th Puerto Vallarta International Half Marathon. According to organizers, about 1000 runners from the United States, Canada and Mexico will be participating in the run which will donate part of the registration fees to the Red Cross.
But it’s not all about sports. Teatro Vallarta has posted a very interesting and entertaining schedule for the remainder of the year. Odiseo Bichir stars in the play “La Dama de Negro” on October 12, Jesus Ochoa presents “El Cerdo” on October 13, the Montreal Ballet is scheduled for October 14, Enrique Guzmán sings his greatest hits on November 3, the Hungarian Dance Company “Miskolc” will perform on November 11, Susan Alexander, Edith Gonzalez and Mauricio Islas star in ” Los Arboles Mueren de Pie ” on November 16 and, among other events, there will also be a Christmas concert entitled “Alegria” on December 19.
Last but not least, from December 1st to 15th the city will come alive with traditional processions to honor the Virgin de Guadalupe, followed by Christmas and New Year celebrations which are expected to be particularity spectacular as it is the first months of our new city administration.
