Vero The App That Wants to Dethrone Instagram

By Valeria Ruelas

March 02, 2018

When we see the Vero logo – all of us blessed millennials – our heart fills with nostalgia, because it reminds us a lot of that famous video store from the 80's. I will not tell you which one, so that you yourselves will do your own research, and when you discover it, you will fall into tears of the so many memories that it will bring you.

Getting back to the Vero theme, this app is actually nothing new. It was created in 2015, but in the last week it has become the latest digital trend. Vero has become the one on only Instagram competitor. And the beauty of it, is that it leaves behind all that we hate about Facebook’s evil stepsister.

As a matter of principle, in the mini Vero universe there is no publicity; no algorithms are used, meaning chronological order is used in post presentation…and its creators promise that it will be like this forever! It’s like a fairy tale ending.

Other details to highlight, is that they claim that they will never collect big data on the users, and the creators promise that YOU, as a user, will be the main client. Not the advertisers, as what has happened with other social networks.

Far from only being able to share and upload photos, on Vero you can recommend music, books, movies and even places, so that you can have and share a whole experience when navigating within the app. It also wants to give more importance to quality before quantity, so this represents another point in favor when we compare it to Instagram. Independently, it is geared towards the adult public audience and does not focus solely on the needs of the adolescent.

Previously we mentioned that in Vero there is no advertising, but users can make purchases. This platform actually claims to be responsible for the highest sale recorded on a social network: an Aston Martin DB5 for 938,000 euros.

Is Vero free or do I have to break into the piggy bank?

For the moment, they have said that this app will be free for life for the first million users. Once that cap is exceeded it will require a paid subscription, but it is not likely that you will be left in poverty in order to subscribe. An annual fee will be charged that will hardly be the equivalent of a few coffees, and although it has not been announced, it is expected to be very accessible.

The only thing left to do is download the app and arrive at your own verdict: is it really better than Instagram?

Stay tuned for the next chapter.
