Instagram has become the internet's hottest social network. It has the highest growth rate and has stolen favor from Twitter among young people with its image and video based platform.

Because of this, big brands like Mazda, Audi and Adidas have begun to exploit the potential of this platform using various initiatives to leverage Instagram's unique way of displaying content and product customization for each user.

For example, last April, Mazda Canada turned its Instagram profile into an interactive road. With a clever arrangement of images posted on the network, the dealership created a simulated path composed photographs that acted as a puzzle. So, individually, each image or video offered branded content which created a unique experience for users. With this campaign, Mazda Canada increased their number of followers by more than 2,600.

Another example is the Audi Spain, which has also begun to play with the platform, allowing its followers to create their own vision and creative concept using profile pictures on the web.

Not wanting to be left behind, Adidas implemented a video that shows followers the ability to customize its latest model sneakers.

Instagram is blowing up and its level of engagement (especially with youth) is high, but can it achieve the goal of bumping Facebook into second place? We'll see. A major barrier is that currently brands are not able to include a link leading to their websites. We can be certain that once Instagram implements that change, the power of its network will reach another level.
