Fast Photo Sharing With Instagram

By Jorge Chávez

One of the benefits of having any smartphone is the ability to take photos without carrying a camera. And now, for those with an iPhone, instantly sharing photos is faster and easier than ever with the advent of the Instagram App.

Paying homage to Kodak Instamatic and Polaroid cameras, the original in almost instant gratification photography, Instagram allows users to snap a phone, put it through a digital filter to transform the look of the image, including changing the colors, boarders and tones of the photo, and then download it to their social networks including Twitter, Facebook, and Flickr, with the additional capability of a Foursquare check-in.

The downloaded photos are high quality and framed in a distinctive white frame, a nod to Polaroid photos of the past.

Currently, Instagram is a free app available at the Apple App Store and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, or iTouch running iOS 3.1.2 or above.

With more than 15 million people currently using the App, the launch of the Android version of Instagram has been impatiently awaited.  Although there is no official launch date, rumors have been swirling that that Instagram for Android App may be available within the coming months.
